I need to come back and upload some xmas photos but for now here are a few from New Years Eve….Baby G had his first taste of Cuban black beans (it was a hit despite his expression below), we headed to downtown for some kid fun, and ended the night with this scrumptious flan with our “cousins” from FL- after some mahi, frijoles, yuca, y pan!

A week full of fun starting out on T-day with Mimi & Gramps then off to the beach to celebrate G’ma Mimmers birthday with Papito, Tia Tusi, Uncle Jason & Baby Gabe. The boys are so cute together and the weather was fantastic. The countdown to Christmas is now on!

We took A to his first football game this weekend…. he had a lot of fun seeing “mr. wolf” the football players and clapping. He is at that point where he really does say everything, which is awesome, and he loves to sing! He has memorized parts of several songs from school and gma mimmers’s house.

I’ve been slacking apparently but i’ll blame that on prolonged jet lag after our trip- I had two business trips between our arrival back in the States and now. But I digress… we finally got Adrian his first hair cut. He made it almost 2 yrs and 4 months without out- impressive!

What a long day…. we had a 7:45am flight out of Heathrow which meant an alarm clock call at 5am, a bus ride on the Hotel Hoppa, and then navigating the GIANT airport. The size of Heathrow is just mind blowing. We made it onto our flight and settled in for the almost 8 hour flight. The good and bad of waking up early is that Adrian was very tired- so he almost slept for half of the flight. Susan and I got a few winks in too. We arrived in DC only to find out that our flight was canceled and we were rebooked for the next day! Talk about depressing…but we were able to get put onto a US Air flight & had to take a taxi to Reagan Airport to catch that flight. I am too tired to describe what it is like to travel across the world with Adrian, a purse, a bookbag, Adrian’s duffel bag, my bag, etc…but we don’t have 3 of our bags at this time. 2 are at RDU and we’ll pick them up tomorrow & they are on the search for Adrian’s bag. We arrived to near 100 degree heat and smoke from fires in Eastern NC. Time to adjust to the reality of summer weather and some of the side effects of travelling. But there is nothing like home and we are happy to be back.
Here is a snapshot of Adrian at RDU waiting for the bus to long term parking. Yes he is in his diaper another long story
You’ll have to call to get all the details.

Today we walked up to the city park which at it’s entrance is Hero’ s Square. It’s a giant park which contains the Szechenyi Baths (the first thermal baths on the Pest side of the city ~1881). We went a took a dip today (on the chilliest day here). The baths (indoor and outdoor) ranged from 20C to 38C and you can rest assured we did not try the cold one! They were very relaxing and we were glad to have packed our bathing suits and a swim diaper for adrian (which for the record came in handy- if you catch my drift!). Happy Father’s Day to All!

We have been pretty impressed with budapest thus far… there are some amazing architectural and historical monuments here and a very interesting history that we have been scratching the surface on. Yesterday we walked to the Jewish district where Europe’s largest synagogue is - some really very interesting history goes along with this site and neighborhood (see some of the pics below). And today we walked across the chain bridge to “buda” which sits on a beautiful hillside complete with palaces, churches, and monuments.

After dragging our stuff onto the Slovakian train, we made it the 2 hrs and 4oish minutes to Budapest. Susan and I managed Adrian and our load of things onto the train & into the city. Let me summarize by staying this was no small feat. I did get to use my Spanish twice which was fun. Upon our arrival it was time for A’s nap so we ordered from a local Italian place (we are in Hungary right?) and rested for a while. Then (of course) we had to find the playground which is in a HUGE park “City Park” about a mile from our hotel. Adrian ended the night with as he says- a “delicious ice cream” cup. Here are some snapshots from our first half day. I wasn’t sure what to expect in Budapest but so far it is really a grand city- honestly some parts remind me a lot of Paris. We plan to do our first expedition tomorrow!
